The Yuchengco Museum first welcomed visitors in September 2005. Its primary goal is to broaden its public appreciation for art by presenting the best international as well as local, cultural, historical, and design exhibits and activities. The Museum, located in Makati, the hub of Metro Manila's financial district, is both a "temple" for art and a "forum" for interchange, discussion, and education.
The Museum was established to hold Ambassador Alfonso T. Yuchengco's art collection and to commemorate his outstanding career as a businessman, diplomat, collector, philanthropist, arts patron, and education champion in the Philippines and internationally.

Bamboo is one of the most popular and beloved subjects in Chinese painting. The bamboo plant growns prolifically in dense groves and symbolizes a person of moral integrity with its tall and straight figure. Bamboo's ability to bend with strong winds represents resilience and the power to withstand adversity. Although delicate in appearance, bamboo is symbolic of durability and vigor in Chinese culture.

The Chinese dragon (long in Hanyu Pinyin), is one of the most recognized symbols in the world. However, the Chinese long as an imaginary animal is not similar to the Western Dragon. In traditional Chinese culture, the dragon is considered the ruler of rainfall. They have the power to decide where and when it would rain; and, so to some, dragons were said to be caretakers of human beings. The dragon is also an important symbol of imperial power in ancient China.
Our visit to the Museum was unplanned, because during that time we were just looking for a place to unwind near Metro Manila, specifically within Makati City. I just remember that we've visited the Ayala Museum, and why not visit the Yuchengco Museum as well?
It is meant for us to visit the museum! Upon entering the museum, we were surprised that there's a free admission for working people in certain industries that we belong to.

Like other museums, Yuchengco Museum is a must-visit, especially if you love or are into arts.

Photo of the renovated second floor sitting area, circa 1920s. In the photo are furniture from the original house where Leonor Rivera-Kipping grew up, which survived a house fire in the early 1900s. The furniture were brought to the country by Engineer Kipping from Europe.
The period furniture, books, and decor in this section, including the wooden frames, dated 1893, are from the collection of the Kipping Family-the descendants of Leonor Rivera-Kipping.
Take note that photography for personal use is allowed inside the museum. Flash photography and photographing individual artworks, however, are not permitted.
