Merced Bakehouse & Restaurant is a hidden gem along EDSA! This bakeshop really makes me nostalgic. It's an old and classic bakeshop that has finally received the recognition it deserves.
Personally, I've known about this bakeshop since I was a child because I used to pass by it on EDSA, and now, thanks to social media, I've sampled most of their products.
Their bakeshop truly stands out. Their pastries are highly "Instagrammable" yet still taste like a traditional Filipino bakeshop.
Beehive
If you are craving something sweet, try the Beehive, which is basically just chocolate and marshmallow.
The beehive is a chocolate-covered treat with marshmallow filling and moist chocolate cake. According to Merced, back in the 80s, this delight was a favorite of Pisay & JASMS students looking for a sweet snack after school. Today, the beehive is a beloved treat that brings back childhood memories.
The snowball, a mini rouded chiffon cake covered with marshmallow icing and desiccated coconut.
You should also sample their Sylvanas (top image), a cookie sandwich made of cashew-meringue wafers filled and covered with buttercream and dusted with cake crumbs. and swiss nut (bottom image).
The Choco Bread (Bear's Claw) is a tasty chocolate treat. Made of sweet bread with decadent chocolate filling.
Their fruit tart was also absolutely delicious. It is an assortment of sweetened fruits in a tart base that gives you a taste of the holidays all year long.
Maybe your question is, do they sell cakes in slices? Yes, they do. They sell cakes in slices, but not the usual kind; instead, they offer pastry-based options like this single-serving Black Forest Roll, which features chocolate sponge, cream, and a cherry on top.
Their brewed coffee is a perfect pair for their pandesal. They have selections of pandesal to choose from: asado pandesal, mini-egg pandesal, hard pandesal, and kalabasa pandesal.
Overall, a wonderful experience! But before I forget, you should also try their hot chocolate, where you can dip your pastries.
If you're looking for noodle soup, you may give a try to their mami or lomi. During our visit we had a beef mami that was so delicious.
Beef mami is a Filipino-Chinese soup made with soft beef brisket and egg noodles in a thick, delicious beef broth. It is a delicious, soothing dish that is frequently consumed as a snack or light supper, particularly during the cooler months.
The prices are reasonable, and the personnel is courteous and attentive. It's the type of place you'll want to return to when you're wanting classic pastries and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Knowing nothing about pastries (other than that she loved eating them), she sought guidance from her drugstore's neighboring businesses before hiring a couple who had worked before at a successful Manila bakery.
On September 24, 1972, Merced Bakehouse was born; it was named in honor of Mercedes Daez.
Three generations of the same family run the bakehouse. Today, the third generation keeps the bakehouse alive.
